One of my interests at the moment is the great amount of production methods that based on revolving motion; be it lathing, ceramic throwing, rotation moulding, metal spinning, drilling, etc.
One of the great examples of hacking this idea of rotation, and visualising it as a beautiful intentional accident, are the spin paintings of Damien Hirst.
They reveal the utterly simple way in which they’re made in a bold, almost aggressive way. The rotational movement has been used to create a burst of colour, shapes, texture and forced the paint to hurry itself over the canvas, forcefully mixing colours and capturing motion in one of the most effective ways imaginable.
